Granada’s main cultural offering of the year, the VIII International Poetry Festival, kicked off Sunday night with a concert and dinner for the 120 international poets invited to attend.
The festival includes daily poetry readings in Granada and surrounding towns, nightly concerts and a book and craft fair on the Central Park.
For many, the highlight of the week is the annual Poetic Carnival/funeral procession through the streets of Granada. The carnival, which features wild costumes and music, stops at each street corner for a poetry reading, before continuing on in its wild revelry.
This year’s poetic carnival is titled the “The Tears of Heartbreak,” with the slogan: “Poetry is Solitary Insurrection.”
