The 40-member medical team was transported into the rural community of the South Atlantic Autonomous Region (RAAS) aboard three U.S. Air Force helicopters, according to a U.S. Embassy press release.
The medical mission was conducted in collaboration with the Nicaraguan Army, municipal authorities and government health workers. Volunteers from the U.S. Peace Corps, NicaSalud and the USAID also pitched in, according to the release.
The U.S. medical mission was part of a continuing program that in recent years has provided medical and dental care to tens of thousands of Nicaraguans living in rural areas.
