Thanksgiving is upon us like hot gravy on sliced bird. While Thanksgiving is about as important a holiday to Nicaragua as La Purisma is to New England, any event that combines eating and drinking to excess with a bit of religious zeal is destined to win converts in Nicaragua.

For U.S. expats looking to gather with other turkey-loving pilgrims this Thursday Nov. 22, there are several restaurants that will be carving bird.

in Granada

Los Chocoyos Restaurant at Casa San Francisco Hotel will be offering a buffet-style turkey dinner with all the trimmings at 6 p.m. Dinner includes welcome drink, appetizer, entrée and desserts for $22 per person + tax and tips.  Children eat for $12. on the Pacific

Tasca Restaurant at Milagro del Mar Beach & Golf Resort will be hosting a feast featuring turkey and stuffing, fresh vegetables, mashed potatoes, candied yams, green bean casserole and cranberry sauce. Finishing off the meal will be pumpkin and pecan pie, with a glass of wine for adults. Tasca’s Thanksgiving feast costs $20 per adult, and $10 for children 15 and under. Restaurante La Finca y El Mar in Rancho Santana (Tola, Rivas) will be hosting a buffet dinner with all the fixins. on the Caribbean (“Atlantic,” as the Pilgrims called it)

Casa Iguana, a small resort on Little Corn Island, is having a family-style meal including roast pork, fresh fish, pineapple stuffing, mashed potatoes, carrots, broccoli, as well as dessert. We will have a cocktail hour around 3 o’clock with some special appetizers and serve dinner at 4 p.m. All are welcome. Reservations are required.
