Amcham president Yali Molina and Japanese Ambassador Masaharu Sato seal the deal
(Posted Jan. 22, 4:40 p.m.)- The Government of Japan is donating $122,400 to the Nicaraguan-American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) to construct a new school in the impoverished neighborhood of Sutiava, León.
The donation, presented today by Japanese Ambassador Masaharu Sato, will be used to build a five-classroom schoolhouse that will benefit 860 students in the mostly indigenous community.
The school is scheduled to be built within the next four months, according to AMCHAM.
“We are starting a new relationship of solidarity with the people and government of Japan,” said Diego Vargas, treasurer of AMCHAM. “This is the beginning of a new permanent working relationship that will bear fruits for the children of Nicaragua. As Ambassador Sato said, the best way out of poverty is through education.”
