The U.S. Embassy in Managua yesterday received the family of fallen U.S.-Nicaraguan soldier Róger Alfonso Suárez, who was killed in Iraq on Dec. 5, 2006.

Suárez was born in Boaco, Nicaragua in 1984 and later became a U.S. citizen. He joined the U.S. Armed Forces in 2005 and was sent to Ar Ramadi, Iraq, where he was killed by gunfire while conducting an operation to provide “security and observation,” according to a State Department release.

Suárez was part of the Ninth Infantry Air Defense out of Fort Carson, Colorado.

Suárez’s family visited the U.S Embassy yesterday to see the conference room dedicated in memory of their son.
